The Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady announced that Our Lady of the Lake College will change its name to Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University. The announcement was made by Sr. Barbara Arceneaux, Provincial for the Sisters. Founded in 1923, Our Lady of the Lake College is the only Catholic Franciscan institution of higher education in the southeastern United States. Supporting activities for the name change will begin with today’s announcement and full implementation of the name will be complete in 2017.

Dr. Adkins is a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. She then went on to complete her surgical residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. Dr. Adkins completed her fellowship training at Massachusetts General Hospital's Center for Laryngeal Surgery and Voice Rehabilitation. Because of her role as a musician, Dr. Adkins has always been fascinated by the mechanics involved with voice production. She went into medicine with the ultimate goal of specializing in voice/laryngeal surgery because of the integral role the larynx plays in how a person interacts with their environment, playing a role in speaking, breathing and swallowing. She finds it very rewarding to help improve this aspect of her patient's lives.

Curry Allen, MHA, Our Lady of the Lake Physician Group director, never planned on a career in healthcare, but life had other plans. After playing college and professional football, he took a job as a patient transporter and quickly realized the impact he could have on people’s lives. That experience sparked a passion for leadership and service. At Our Lady of the Lake, Curry is dedicated to building healthcare partnerships, mentoring the next generation and increasing access to care — especially for underserved communities. His work with Southern University and the Men in Healthcare CommUNITY is helping shape a more diverse and engaged healthcare workforce.

David Van De Car, DO, received his associate degree from Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Florida. From there, he attended the University of Florida where he received bachelor of science degree in nutrition and zoology. Dr. Van De Car earned his medical degree from the University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency and cardiology Fellowship at Brooke Army Medical Center. He completed his interventional cardiology Fellowship at Duke University Health System. Dr. Van De Car served as lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army for 24 years with his last assignment as chief of cardiology at Womack Army Medical Center at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. Dr. Van De Car is married with three children.
